About Us
THE FOUNDERS
Welcome to Kandu, we are Shachar and Yaniv – two artisan musicians who found a way to combine our greatest loves: music and design. When we're not handcrafting the Kandu percussion instruments, Shachar can be found playing bass in eastern-jazz-fusion and cross-over ethnic bands (or building awesome electric basses), while Yaniv plays guitar in a folk/world-music brother & sister duo.
THE STORY OF KANDU
We founded Kandu seven years ago, creating our first cajón for Abe Doron, a good friend and former drummer on the Riverdance world tour. Since then, Kandu has grown from a backroom idea into a world-leading cajón maker and instrument innovator. Our drums and instruments have found their way into the hands of many top local and international musicians, and they are sought after and played by leading percussionists throughout the world. The four initial lines of cajons have grown into a treasure trove of unique creations, each one designed to be played, shared and loved. They are for you the musician, you the traveler, you the educator, you the drum circle facilitator and you the human, here on Earth, looking to find the beat, join the rhythm and connect to something bigger.
WHERE CAN I GET ONE?
Kandu instruments are sold around the world – online and in specialist music shops. You can purchase them here on our site, or in our Amazon shop. We are also very happy to speak with you directly and take your order over the phone or by email. If you have questions about the instruments, are interested in making a special order or wish to order large volumes, definitely shoot us an email or give us a call.
OUR CORNER OF THE WORLD
The Kandu workshop is located in a tiny village called Ma'ale Zvia in the Galilee of Israel, a region of breathtaking beauty, where Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Druze residents coexist in peace and mutual respect. You are warmly invited to visit.
